{"id":272,"date":"2021-09-10T14:16:13","date_gmt":"2021-09-10T18:16:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bptd8dev.bridgeport.edu\/news\/?p=272"},"modified":"2025-01-06T16:03:16","modified_gmt":"2025-01-06T21:03:16","slug":"new-combined-department-of-athletics-and-recreation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgeport.edu\/news\/new-combined-department-of-athletics-and-recreation\/","title":{"rendered":"Â鶹´«Ã½ Announces New Combined Department of Athletics and Recreation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Â鶹´«Ã½ (UB) has merged its\u00a0<a href=\"\/student-affairs\/campus-activities\/recreation\">campus recreation program<\/a>\u00a0with its athletics programs to form the Department of Athletics and Recreation. UB has also hired David Graham as Director of the Wheeler Recreation Center &amp; Intramural Sports.<\/p>\n<p>Graham brings a wealth of intercollegiate recreation and athletics experience to UB from more than three decades in collegiate athletics and recreation. Most recently Graham served as the Recreation and Fitness Center Coordinator at Johnson &amp; Wales University in North Miami, Florida.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDave\u2019s experience in both coaching and leading recreation and wellness programs at the collegiate level make him a great addition to our team,\u201d said Jay Moran, UB\u2019s vice president of Athletics. \u201cWe are excited about adding Campus Recreation to our department which offers recreation, intramural, and fitness programing opportunities for our entire university community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>UB\u2019s Wheeler Recreation Center will offer co-ed intramural sports including basketball, soccer, table tennis, cornhole, volleyball, flag football and dodgeball. Fitness class programming will include Zumba, MixxedFit, Yoga and Cross Fit Training. All classes will be taught by certified instructors.<\/p>\n<p>UB Campus Recreation has also taken over \u201cThe Alley,\u201d the eight-lane bowling alley that opened in 2019 located in the John J. Cox Student Center. There will be open play time at \u201cThe Alley\u201d throughout the week for students and staff, in addition to tournaments hosted by Campus Recreation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Student wellness is passion of mine, and I\u2019m excited to join the Purple Knights family to help grow the campus recreation program at UB,\u201d said Graham. \u201cOur goal is to make coming over to the Wheeler Recreation Center one of the best parts of the day for everyone on campus. We will offer high-quality fitness, wellness and intramural programs to promote healthy habits that our Purple Knights will take with them when they leave UB.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Campus Recreation office is in UB\u2019s Wheeler Recreation Center (WRC), which houses three full basketball courts, a weight room, cardio room, racquetball court and two fitness studios.
